Accra 11 January, 2013; Vodafone Ghana has today presented items worth GHC 5,000 to the Autism centre in Kokomlemle, to support continued care for the children at the centre.

The donation is in fulfillment of a promise made by Ghana's most respected telecommunications company to donate GHC1 for every 'like' they received on their facebook page to the centre. The '1 like 1 cedi' campaign was started with the aim of raising funds to support Autistic children in Ghana.

Accra, Dec. 24, GNA - The United Way Ghana in partnership with Melcom Care has donated some assorted items to three Non Governmental Organisations in Accra.

The organizations are Chosen Rehab, Autism Centre and Echoing Hill Items donated include bags of rice, can fish, cooking oil, tomatoes past, milk, toilet rolls, beverages and detergents among others.

Presenting the items Ms Sonya Sadhwani, Director Brand Management of Melcom, said the gesture form part of the company’s social responsibility to give back to the community in which it operates.

Mrs Serwah Quaynor, Founder of the Autism Awareness, Care and Training Centre in Accra has called for an intensive awareness creation on the autism disorder to ensure that sufferers received special care.

She who was speaking in Accra on Saturday ahead of a door-to-door awareness creation exercise for households at Kokomlemle, to mark this year's World Autism Day in Ghana said the number of autistic children in the country kept increasing at an alarming rate.

Vodafone Ghana has once again demonstrated its commitment to its brand promise of empowerment and making a difference in the lives of Ghanaians with a new campaign called '1 like 1 cedi'. Driven on the Vodafone facebook page, the '1 like, 1 cedi' campaign raises funds to support the Autism Centre in Kokomlemle by liking the Vodafone Facebook page - www.facebook.com/vodafoneghana. Individuals will be making a significant difference in the lives of the children at the centre as for every 'like' Vodafone Ghana gets on their page, they will donate GHC 1 to the Autism centre.
