GUBA Founder Visits Autism Centre in Ghana

The founder of the Ghana UK Based Achievements (GUBA) Awards Dentaa, recently paid a visit to the Autism Awareness Care and Training Centre (AACT) in Ghana. The AACT is an organisation that provides support for families with autistic children.  The organisation provides a centre for autistic children to interact, learn life skills and ensure that they receive quality education.

Mrs Serwah Quaynor dubbed ‘Auntie Serwah’ set up the AACT in 1998. As a mother with a child suffering from Autism, she was prompted by the lack of facilities that provide services to autistic families and decided to set up the AACT to help those in a similar situation.  Auntie Serwah’s drive has led to the success of the AACT which currently holds around 32 children.  She runs workshops and seminars to raise awareness of autism in Ghana and to reduce the level of stigma attached to it.

Dentaa was impressed with the organisation stating ‘I was really impressed with the work Auntie Serwah has done. The AACT is a unique organisation which caters for the needs of autistic children and GUBA will help to raise awareness and help provide necessary support’.

The AACT have done exceptionally well so far but there are still a number of areas that needs contribution from the public. The AACT appeals for financial help to pay rent, toys, books and a school bus for trips. Respite care for the mothers is also an essential area the AACT will like to improve on and with help from the public they will be able to achieve this.

GUBA is appealing to all organizations, in Ghana and UK to help support this worthy cause. In an attempt to help create the awareness, GUBA foundation is this year concentrating on Autism. We will organize activities to raise funds as well. Please come on board and let us all help Auntie Serwah’s amazing effort.
